Cedar Point has already got to work and is putting the Sandcastle Suites area under construction.
According to The Plain Dealer, 25 new camping sites are being added to the park’s already 95 RV sites. This will make the park have a total of 120 camping sites on the peninsula.
The new sites will have many upgrades from the other sites, including a fire pit, built-in grill, dining table, Adirondack chairs, and a glider swing with views of Lake Erie!
The campsites are near the back of the park behind Mean Streak and next to Lighthouse Point. The sites are where the Sandcastle Suites hotels were, which was demolished in the off-season when Cedar Point announced it in late October.
It’s very unclear if we will see anything else in development in the area. There is a lot of land left as the hotel was very large taking up around 2 acres.
Brian Witherow, the company’s executive vice president and chief financial officer added in the quarter 1 conference call of 2018, that they weren’t done developing overnight options at Cedar Point.
Cedar Point is the largest revenue stream of all of the parks in the Cedar Fair chain. The overnight options which Cedar Fair would like to add at some of their most popular parks, like Carowinds, Kings Dominion, and Kings Island.
The overnight options really develop the park in my opinion, especially since people like to travel out of town and catch a couple of parks on the way.
I am going to suspect that maybe a new area of the park will be added with some new flat rides. Honestly, now that these will be going into the area, my speculation in November of a roller coaster is definitely out of the window. Maybe even a new restaurant for the campsites could be added. We will definitely have to see. I think for 2019 or 2020 that this area will be developed further.
Reservations for the new sites are now open and you can find rates and more information on the official reservation page on Cedar Point’s website here: https://reservations.cedarpoint.com/cedarpoint!
