I headed down to Charlotte, NC on Friday, March 22nd to go to Carowinds during opening weekend.
The main reason I had interest to visit the park was to ride Copperhead Strike. It is Carowinds’ new Mack Rides roller coaster.
I did not attend the Carowinds Season Passholder Preview Night. I instead visited relatives in the area.
I got up around 7:30 a.m., got ready, and ate breakfast.
Carowinds did not open the parking tolls at the usual 9 a.m. time. The park was scheduled to open at 10 a.m. which made it unusual.
Since my hotel was across the street from the park I walked through the empty parking lot into the park.
I headed straight to Copperhead Strike with around 200 other people. I waited around 10-20 minutes for the ride.
I was very happy that I rode it at that time because the line went over 2 hours shortly after.
I am not going to include my thoughts of the ride or my updated Carowinds rankings in this Trip Report.
I will include my thoughts and review in a separate blog post and YouTube video.
I then went over to Intimidator to get a ride on the coaster. I really enjoyed it but it still felt a little sluggish. Since it is warmer relative to my visit in 2018, it was more forceful.
Shortly after, I rode the Carolina Skytower which provides a 360-degree view of the entire park. It was a great ride and I always enjoy it when coming to the park.
After, I got a Chicken Sandwich from Chick-fil-A. Something to note is that the selection is terrible compared to Cedar Point and the prices are higher too.
Then, I rode Fury 325 and it was an an amazing ride! There was a ton of airtime on the ride. It was also very intense and there was a little breeze making it even better.
After I got frozen yogurt from sweetFrog. It was very good and in my opinion is the best frozen yogurt (compared to the other places I have had it from).
I rode Carolina Goldrusher finally after not being able to ride it the two other times I went to the park. I thought it was a decent ride. Better than Cedar Creek Mine Ride but not superior to Adventure Express.
I left the park to meet up with relatives for a portion of the evening.
Around 7:30 p.m. I went back to the park for some night rides – which I was super pumped for.
I got a night ride on Fury 325 in the back row which was absolutely amazing. The airtime and intensity were out of this world. It was a great ride experience!
The wait was still around an hour which allowed for less rides on the coaster.
After, I rode Intimidator and got two night rides on it. Both of them only took around 10 minutes waiting in line.
I decided to head out of the park since I didn’t want to wait another hour for Fury 325 and there was only around 15 minutes less until the park closed.
I had an amazing day at Carowinds during Opening Day!
I hope to ride Afterburn, Hurler, Nighthawk, Vortex, and some of my favorite coasters on Sunday which will be the second day of my trip.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed getting insight about my experience at the park.
